What is most important in any organization? Some say sales, some say delivery. Some say to put the customer first, some say put the employees first.
We say "put people first". Get the right people on the bus and then let’s work out the right direction to go in.
We are looking for someone to help us make the people part of Razor even better. Everything from finding the right people, nurturing, growing and developing and if they choose to go on to bigger, better and different things, we want to ensure that happens. We want to learn at every stage so that we can do better.
Great; how does this break down? Tell me a bit more; what are you really looking for here? We are looking for someone who is a true people person. Someone who can relate and gain rapport quickly. Someone who you can trust. A really important trait to have will be energy and creativity.
Sometimes it’s easier to say what we don’t want so here goes; we don’t want old skool views on “HR” or someone who refers to it as human “resources” (we are talking about people here). We don’t want someone who just does what is easy or plain and that includes how we describe our roles. We don’t want someone who believes that you either have it or not (talent), we want someone who can see deeper than that and who has a growth mindset and will encourage others to focus on purposeful practice.
Sure there are going to be processes and these processes are all about enabling people to do more. If we continue to get the right people on the bus, we shouldn’t need policies in place to keep people on track and to do the right thing.
Right now you might be in an HR role (let’s call it Human Relationships) or you might be in recruitment. You might have the role of People Operations already or you might not have any background in any of these and that’s totally cool.
Let’s dig a little deeper into the role. The role will be the custodian of the following:
This boils down to what we see as 4 aspects; Finding, Onboarding, Development and Exit.
We hire on why rather than how. We are different in the way we speak with people and identify the right mindset and mix. You will need to be creative, authentic and engaging.
People are bored and switched off by the traditional approach. We take a different approach and your job is to help us to be even better at this.
This part is really important and starts earlier than you might expect. The remit here is to ensure people are happy, have everything they need and settle in.
Our one-word pitch - “Razor” - we are cutting edge so we need to keep sharpening everything we do and we need to keep up with technology.
This is where most of the effort will be, elevating everyone and ensuring there is continual development and stretching. All of this needs to be in line with the business objectives and direction.
People move on and that is totally fine. We will have done our job well if they have even more opportunities to reach up to.
At this point, we want to learn all we can. We also want to celebrate the successes and keep in touch. We genuinely care about people and want the best for them.
We care just as much when people move on as they do when they are on the way in.
