The Head of Discovery at Razor takes a note out of Stephen Covey’s book and ‘begins with the end in mind’. This role combines technology expertise with sophisticated client scoping to uncover the clients’ vision, needs, requirements and strategy. Once you're walking in the shoes of the client, speaking their language and understanding their TLA’s, you will collaboratively create high level solutions and roadmaps that take them to their destination. This is called a Discovery and it’s essential for the successful delivery of a project.

You will be the Discovery vanguard. 🙋‍♀️ You will define best-in-class approaches to discoveries and upskill, empower and refine our colleagues in the Production Team to run discoveries too. Through your guidance and definitions of best practice, you will provide oversight to project teams to help them deploy the right frameworks, tools and techniques to get the most from client meetings. There is a fine balance between consistency and made-to-measure, and you will know when to go off-script and what elements are a requisite.

In discoveries that you run, you will bring your skills of commercial awareness, business operations and technological possibilities to understand the client’s problems. You will provide strategic consultancy to bring together the clients’ dream and our experts within Razor. You will provide oversight of the design and definition of the solution, and provide a thorough handover to the project team during the build phase. In this role, you will also have to jump on the keyboard to complete hands-on technical implementation. You may not have expertise in every area of the Production Team, but you will have very strong technical, development skills and be able to lead specialists in the UX/UI fields.

Because of your strengths in visualising the future and mapping out how to get there, you will often be included in new business and up-servicing conversations. You will work closely with the Head of Commercial and clients to explore clients’ technological strategy. Discovering the bigger, deeper, smarter picture, and exploring how Razor can support multiple projects to transform business strategy.

To be successful in this role, you first have to be inquisitive. 🤔 Ask a million questions. Be open, curious and ready to be proved wrong. There is no fixed approach. No ‘right’ way. But there are best practices, excellent approaches, innovative thinkers, and transformative theories. Your role is to find the best combination of these elements to forge the path for our clients and colleagues.

Here are a few of the tasks and responsibilities that you would have:

  • Set a clear vision of the Discovery process and further client strategization
  • Define and present the vision and roadmaps for solutions for our clients
  • Oversight and leadership of all Discoveries to ensure a consistent and thorough scoping process
  • Develop frameworks, tools and techniques for the Discovery process that all colleagues can understand and apply
  • Execute technical Discoveries to collect requirements, understand the problem and explore solutions with clients and internal specialists
  • Leadership of specialists during the Discovery process who offer UX/UI and Development expertise
  • Provide presales consultancy to support Account Directors in winning new business opportunities
  • Complete hands-on technical implementation, as required
