It just works, right?
It just works, right?
Nobody ever notices when something works but we all notice when it doesn’t work.
Razor is now at a scale where we need someone to ensure everything continues to work and run smoothly. This is a unique role that has a diverse range of challenges; everything from ensuring the printer works all the way through to our business-critical systems, internal network and devices, Microsoft licencing and Microsoft Partner management, devices and security.
The role also includes the world of cloud computing and infrastructure management. Working with developers and delivery leads to design, configure, fault find, monitor and manage a broad variety of applications that live primarily in the cloud.
The cloud infrastructure role would be called a DevOps role in the current technical world. Back in the day, it might be referred to as IT. However you look at it, it is a collaborative role bringing a project together. Owning this space at Razor is an important one. We have a vast array of different projects; everything from large scale IoT platforms, to high scalability high traffic one-off events and everything in between. Many of these are business-critical and are monitored closely.
The role doesn’t stop with the wonderful internal mechanics of the Razor world and the eclectic cosmos of Azure, there is more to it!
Hopefully, this gives you an idea of what we are looking for with the understanding that we probably haven’t covered everything. There will be plenty of opportunities to grow your knowledge and we don’t expect you to know all of this in detail right now but you are in the right place to learn.
Now let’s get to the most important bit of this - you! You may currently be in a similar role looking for a new adventure or the next challenge. You may be in a slightly different role but have a passion and the traits to explore something new. We don’t expect you to have a degree or have 10 years of experience doing exactly this and we certainly don’t expect you “know everything”. We are looking for the following traits:
Let’s delve into each of these in a bit more detail.**
This should come as no surprise. There will be dead ends. There will be times where it doesn’t make sense. There will be times when different thinking is required to overcome a challenge. The ability to persist and the tenacity to find a way will prevail. A mindset of not solved yet over can’t is what we are looking for.
Pretty obvious really. All of what is needed is very technical. We don’t expect that you know everything we want you to have some core understanding as building blocks to learn. You may know how the internet works and the 7 layers of the OSI model but never really played at a deep level with Azure. It might be the other way around and that is all cool with us.
A great people person
As this role touches so many aspects and pretty much everyone, you are going to have to be great working with people. It might be working with an architect designing the infrastructure and connectivity for a project or it might be under pressure resolving an internal connectivity issue affecting many people.
I wonder how? I wonder why? What happens if? There is nothing like being interested and inquisitive. This is how we learn and find new ways and thinking. This is how we move forward.
Enjoy “getting things down”
This could be considered as the most boring aspect of the role. We think that it can be one of the most powerful. Forming the processes, detailing them clearly, defining strategies and articulating them. Yes, it’s hard to do but not boring. It’s exciting to get it right and see the effect that it can have when done well.
A little bit about us and Razor. Razor is a technology consultancy. Strangely for a technology consultancy, we put technology after people. People come first which is why we always look to understand first, then respond. We don’t have a single product and we are constantly developing the future. We help organisations develop strategies and forge the vision of their future and we create disruptive and sustaining innovations. We work with the latest technologies and move quickly. The pace is fast, really fast and we have a lot of fun on the journey.
We believe that we have a strong positive and energetic culture. You will hear phrases like “leave your ego at the door” and “go forth and do something and ask for forgiveness if it doesn’t work”. We pride ourselves on encouraging people to push the boundaries and to have autonomy. We provide the direction and support, you bring the passion, energy and ideas to help us get there.
Some might refer to these as benefits, we don’t, we believe these are the basics;
The real benefits that are harder to replicate;
There are more benefits of working at Razor.
